A few days ago a former Youtube engineer spilled beans on how a group of engineers plotted to kill Microsoft’s Internet Explorer through Youtube back in 2009 nearly 10 years ago.

Frustrated by the retarded Internet Explorer the group started to figure out how they can get rid of this aging browser. After a couple of months of discussion and planning the group came up with a plan to place a banner above the video that only shows up only to the IE 6 users saying that ” We will be phasing out the support for your browser soon “.

This all happened without Google’s permission as they figured out a way to bypass code enforcement by creating a special set of code which they called “OldTuber” that let them make direct changes to Youtube codebase easily.

After banner started showing up the press started to question that why Google wants to kill Internet Explorer when there is a large group of people who are still using the browser and to get out of this the group told everything to Google’s PR team. After which two Google Lawyers demanded to remove the banner immediately because this action was against the EU’s anti-competitive behavior but the team explained that they have programmed the banner to display random browsers and demonstrated it to the lawyers after which they went back to their work.

The engineer who led the team, Chris Zacharias said that “We saw an opportunity in front of us to permanently cripple IE6 that we might never get again”.

At that time Youtube was getting around 18% of its traffic especially from IE 6 which dipped massively within a month of this action.

Zacharis told on his blog that, within one month, over 10 % of global IE6 traffic dropped off while all other browsers increased in corresponding amounts”.

Soon after Youtube, the banner started to show up on other Google websites mainly Google Docs. Just after the banned went live one of the Docs team employees went with the plan to his manager to convince him to do the same.

After 4 years of wait the rebels won the battle, IE 6 user base dropped below 1% in the US which convinced Microsoft to finally kill the IE 6 and the irony was that Microsoft also got frustrated and launched a countdown website to accelerate the death and also distributed t-shirts and cake to celebrate the final moments of IE6.

The Predictions 2019 – Exploding enterprise demands

The predictions have been made by none other than the Forrester team. In fact, these revelations were made in the later part of the year 2018. Those predictions have now turned true. The demand for cloud service is growing in an exponential manner. This has resulted in the launch of new cloud platform services as well.

So, we are now past the first quarter of the year 2019 and fast moving to the second quarter. So, what are the predictions for 2019 now? The team from Forrester makes the following claims:

• The bigger players are expected to grow bigger further ahead. This would mean an improved performance of the existing players.
• A good example is the AWS Support which registered a whopping growth of over 40 percent already in the first quarter of the year. Same was the case with other players like Microsoft Azure and Alibaba. The public cloud platform is further expected to grow further ahead.
• The enterprise container platforms are expected to develop further. A few prominent players in this realm that we would expect to improve include Containers, Kubernetes (K8s), and serverless implementations.
• The private cloud and data centre enhancements should be the in-thing. Enterprises have been asking for the on premise versions of the cloud services, and this will need a perfect alignment of the different cloud services and an effective integration between one another.

The news of feature update comes from Microsoft’s blog update about the Windows insider build and will be rolled out to insiders using preview builds of 19H1 that is the may 2019 update well known as version 1903. The feature update will

• let you see the incoming notifications and events in real-time
• group all of the notifications of your phone in one place
• let you select which notifications to receive and which to skip
• let you wipe all of the notifications at once or individually.

When you connect Your phone app to your Android phone with your PC, it will begin installing an application in your Android device so that the notifications from your phone be available on your Desktop.

The notifications will pop up as a normal Window notification in the lower right corner of your Window screen and will be available in the action center also.

Earlier screen mirroring feature used to be a part of Cortana app so this feature is not actually new but has been reintroduced with Your phone app.

With the new update, Microsoft has also allowed phone screen mirroring for devices including, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, Note 8, and Note 9. Though this feature needs a “Windows 10 PC with a Bluetooth radio supports the low energy peripheral role.” So if you have a phone that supports it, you also need to have a pc that supports the same.

Sony, during Q&A sessions with reporters, told that PS5 launch might be postponed for the next 12 months and PS lovers will have to wait until next summer and there’s a lot more to be revealed about the console net year at E3.

Microsoft has not come clear on how many users of Outlook.com have been affected by the compromised credentials. While regretting the inconvenience caused as a result of this breach of security, the software giant has suggested the affected users reset their passwords as a precautionary measure to avoid the possibility of a hacking attempt on their account.

The compromised credentials have already been disabled to avoid the possibility of any further attacks. Microsoft Edge – based on Chromium released

The difference between the two versions lies in the frequency of the updates – the canary update comes with daily updates, while the developer updates will provide you access to weekly updates. Want to enable Dark Mode? Here is how?

Well, the browser is still in the development stage and the dark mode has not yet been introduced in the official version of Chromium-based edge browser. Microsoft has assured that the support will arrive soon. However, you can get it with a few simple tweaks.
Like you have used those experimental flags on Chrome, these are available on Edge as well. The only difference is you use edge:// instead of chrome://.

• Type in edge://flags in the address bar
• Type in Microsoft Edge Theme in the search field

• Once you find the theme displayed on your browser, use the option to Enabled from Default

That does it. You will need to relaunch your browser. Once that done, your Edge browser will have a dark mode enabled.
If it does not change, make sure that your Windows default configuration is set to Dark instead of Light.

What does this new development mean?

With Microsoft abandoning its own browser engine in favor of an open source engine which is in mostly in control of Google, we now have only two major browser engines – Chromium and Gecko. As things stand as of now, there isn’t much of a difference between Chrome and Edge with Chromium. Both look practically the same and maybe you would want to use Edge as your default browser. In any case, we expect it to change with future builds.
